As The Leopold Writing Program approaches our 15th year, we couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished. In the past fourteen years:

  • Over 2,000 students in grades 6-12 from all over New Mexico have participated in the Leopold Writing Contest;
  • 23 early to mid-career environmental writers from all over the country have been Aldo and Estella Leopold Residents;
  • And such distinguished writers as National Book Award-winner Barry Lopez and Robin Wall Kimmerer, the acclaimed author of Braiding Sweetgrass, have given the Annual Leopold Lecture.

We know our program has an impact on the individuals who are able to participate. We also know that the more we extend our reach, the greater that impact will be.

Help us today to expand the work of The Leopold Writing Program by donating to our 2023 Winter Campaign. Your funds will ensure we can direct our efforts toward more students across the state, giving voice to the young people who will be leading the environmental movement in the coming years; uplift more early career environmental writers to produce and share their work; and elevate the voices of established conservationist voices to inspire the public.
